Two suspects have been arrested on suspicion of shooting to death an Irvine man in North Long Beach last year, authorities said.

Eleazar Lopez, a Paramount resident, was taken into custody on Tuesday, Sept. 27, for his alleged role in the killing of Abelardo Ramirez Bonilla. A second suspect, Long Beach resident Leonel Zapien Martinez, was arrested in March for an unrelated warrant and has remained in custody.

On Dec. 18 of last year, Bonilla was found shot to death in a parked SUV in the area of 72nd Street and Atlantic Place at the city’s northern border.  A few days later, authorities arrested the first suspect, Luis Barrios of Compton, during a traffic stop.

Barrios, Lopez, Martinez and Bonilla knew each other prior to the shooting, and investigators believe that the killing possibly stemmed from a personal dispute with the victim and the suspects, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office had filed criminal charges against Martinez and Barrios, and detectives planned to hand the case against Lopez to the District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration this coming week, police said.

Lopez and Barrios each face one count of conspiracy to commit murder, and Martinez faces one count of murder.
